New world Island Academy is a K12 system consisting of 570 students (from 20 surrounding communities), and 37 staff members In September 2005 we moved into a new state of the art building located in Summerford, Newfoundland.. The school operates under the Nova Central School District which is located in Gander.
There are 18 communities on New World Island, ranging in size from 1200 people (Summerford) to about 100 people.
Most communities are in the 200 - 400 people range. In addition to communities on New World Island itself, there is also the community of Boyd's Cove. This community is famous for the Beothuck site and Interpretation Centre.
Some of our chief attractions are whales and icebergs. We also have a first rate provincial park - Dildo Run Park - on the island. This park can handle tents, campers and RV's. Try it out!
New World Island is also great for cross country skiers, who in the past two or three years have enjoyed lot of snow.
